Prime Circle
Prime Circle enter 2009 as the leading rock band in South Africa, buoyed by several explosive live performances, a gold-selling album, significant radio play and, waiting in the wings, a bold assault on the international market. The fact that Prime Circle have dominated the rock scene in South Africa is hardly surprising. The five-piece have supported the release of their first two albums with a commitment to hard work and a brace of radio hits, rapidly building up a loyal fan base. With the release of third album, ?All or Nothing? Prime Circle have managed a most difficult feat over the past year: that is to even further elevate their standing in the South African music industry.

Goldfish It?s hard to imagine that one of the most exciting live electronica acts in the world right now comes from a small city on the southern-most tip of Africa. But the success story behind Cape Town?s electronica phenomenon Goldfish has been nothing short of extraordinary. They take their incendiary multiple-instrument live act across the globe, with sold-out shows from their residency at Ibizan Super Club Pascha, to Tokyo and from Dubai to Cannes. They open for electronica giants Fatboy Slim, Mr Scruff, The Audio Bullys, Paul van Dyk, Pete Tong and Stereo MCs. They are hailed as the Re-invention of the DJ, and voted best live act in South Africa. Goldfish quite simply is the business.

|
Fokofpolisikar
Fokofpolisiekar is currently one of SA`s biggest rock acts. Their explosive performances combined with their distinctive style and fine tuned marketing campaigns have packed out venues nationwide. Although branded by many conventional South Africans as the bad boys of Afrikaans rock, they have also been noticed by Afrikaans literary circles for the intelligent conveyance of their honest and straightforward lyrics. Fokofpolisiekar fans range from teenagers, students, working class and even likeminded parents. They have headlined at all major festivals and venues nationwide over the past few years.
|
|
Dirty Skirts
The Dirty Skirts have always had clear intentions as to where they were headed: to rise to the top of the South African music scene, and to take their music to the world. Driven by the awareness that it must be possible to reverse the tide of American/UK musical imports that washes through South Africa year to year, they?re on a mission to sell those pesky colonial powers something new, something very Cape Town.
|
|
Flash Republic
FlashRepublic is the funky collaboration of four of South Africa?s most prominent dance music talents, vocalist Tamara Dey, two of the country?s top DJs, Ryan Dent and Craig Massiv and the newest addition to the band MC Cliff Barns. Their music is best described as electro-tinged and soul-drenched house music. Flash Republic?s live show, which has seen them support Kelis, Fatboy Slim, Audio Bullies, and Stereo MC?s, has ignited dance floors and venues around the country, showcasing Tamara?s soulful vocals and Ryan and Craig on a combination of synths, samplers, keys and live visuals.

Napalma Napalma is a musical inspiration born out of interaction between Brazil and Africa. Created in 2004 in Vitoria, Espirito Santo, Brazil they are discovering new ways to incite dance floor fever. The Sleepers The Sleepers are Simon Tamblyn on lead vocals; Nicolai Roos on guitar and vocals; Steven Jacobson on drums; Jordi Reddy on keys and bass and Adam Hill on guitar, vocals and lapsteel.
The Sleepers was formed by Adam Hill and Carly Phillips in 2003. Tragically, right after finishing their first demo release, Carly passed away from leukaemia. Jordi Reddy respectfully filled her shoes in 2006. Since 2006, The Sleepers have been garnering support and acclaim from an ever-growing base of loyal fans. The Sleepers are currently in the stages of post-production of their first professional full length offering recorded at RockitDog Studios..

Van Coke Kartel
Since the release of their debut album in November 2007, Van Coke Kartel has exploded onto the SA Music scene with sold out shows and raving reviews. Their self-titled album (recorded at Bellville Studios and produced by Theo Crous) was nominated for a SAMA Award 2008 for ?Best Afrikaans Rock album? Van Coke Kartel?s second full length album ?Waaksaam en Wakker? was released in September 2008. The new album offers a huge, intensive production with an added progressive and even ?softer? dimension to the straight up in your face raw sound that initially established Van Coke Kartel as a band.

Sick-leaves

|
New Academics The genre defying New Academics are a Johannesburg based South African band, who have dished out their twisted brand of groove-oriented rock from almost every single club and festival stage in the country since their inception in 2004. 5 years later, with 2 albums, 2 consecutive SAMA ?Best Alternative Album? nominations and 3 European Tours under their belt, the band has stepped off the beaten path once more as 2009 sees them redirect their sound down more electronically oriented pathways.

|
Taxi Violence
For Taxi Violence, ?Full effort is full victory?, and somehow they just wouldn?t feel satisfied were it any other way. Keeping their fans close at hand is an integral part of this rock band?s motto. They realized that whilst such things as radio play, A-list air time and high rotation videos are important tools to furthering a career, they are not the be-all and end-all. Taxi Violence will make it: on their own terms. Whether on stage or in the studio, Taxi Violence refuses to play a mediocre song. It?s got to blow their minds first, otherwise we won?t hear it. They are a rock band in the true sense of the word.

Zebra and Giraffe Zebra & Giraffe is the name of a new force pressing itself into the hearts and minds of music fans ? and even on the first listen it?s clear that Z&G?s debut longplayer, ?Collected Memories?, is every bit as unique as the animals that its named after. The cleverly named act began as the 12-lettered pseudonym of Johannesburg music wunderkind, Greg Carlin, but has now evolved into a 5 piece live band that have toured across South Africa, played alongside international acts such as Oasis and Snow Patrol, and picked up a SAMA award.

|
Hog Hoggidy Hog The name Hog Hoggidy Hog has been etched deep into the mosh-wounds of the South African scene. It?s been over a decade of action-packed, music, mishchef and mayhem since the young hoglets first blessed the decaying stage of the Purple Turtle with their debut performance. Now all these years down the line, not much has changed. They may be somewhat more professional, a bit better known but it?s sometimes still a struggle to keep singer, George Bacon?s clothes on.

7th Son Born from the womb of the Mother City, comes a band like no other, a band that defies parameters and exists on the sharp side of ?rude, rock, reggae?. Formed in the summer of 2000, 7th Son quickly grew into an arsenal of acoustics and expanded their backline with the incorporation of some of South Africa's tightest musicians into the mix. 7th Son gained fast popularity, and it wasn't long after the release of their first entirely self-produced album, "Fire in the Rain" that the band began touring the rest of the country regularly, playing at all major clubs and festivals.

Ill-Literate-skill
Few hip-hop outfits can claim to have consistently survived the times through
trial and tribulations. Ill-Literate-Skill?s foundation has never been tried and
tested as much as it has been in recent months, but the crew is proving to be
more determined and resilient then ever. With the independent release of their
long awaited sophomore album, Off The Radar, Ill Skillz truly reflects the
eclecticism Jimmy Flexx and Tommy Jinxx have in their approach to making
traditional hip hop that honours the golden era, yet maintaining progression and relevance throughout.

QTTM (Quiet time) Stop. Listen. Instrumental Cape Town three-piece QTTM has a story to tell.
Guitarist Aidan met drummer Sean and they fell in love. They wanted to adopt a beautiful baby but Madonna had taken all the good ones. Their unlikely combination of personalities means the resulting sound, a mash of metal, jazz, d?nb, electro, indie and classical influences, has been compared to everything from The Mars Volta and SOAD, to Mogwai, to Don Caballero, 65 Days of Static and Rage Against the Machine. ?
